Janet Coffman, PhD
UC Berkeley Postdoctoral Scholar
Janet holds a PhD in health services and policy analysis and a master's degree
in public policy from the University of California, Berkeley. She also has a
master's degree in US history from the State University of New York, Binghamton.
Her research interests include the health care workforce, evidence-based health
policy, and access to care for vulnerable populations. Janet previously worked for
the United States Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs and the UC-San Francisco
Center for the Health Professions. After completing her doctorate, she returned to
UCSF as senior research analyst for the California Health Benefits Review Program
at the Institute for Health Policy Studies.
Mary Reed, MPH
UC Berkeley Graduate Student
Mary is a DrPH student at UC Berkeley; she also received her MPH
in Epidemiology/Biostatistics at Berkeley. Previously, she has been
involved in research on the health and utilization effects of cost-sharing,
and the effects of technology on patient-physician communication.
Consultants
Neal Adams, MD, MPH
Director of Special Projects, California Institute for Mental Health
As a senior member of the CiMH staff, Dr. Adams is responsible
for a wide range of projects focused on quality improvement and
systems transformation through technical assistance, consultation,
training and research. Primary projects include consultation with
the County of Santa Cruz, leadership in several evidence based
practice initiatives, as well as the implementation of the Mental Health
Services Act. Dr. Adams received his Bachelor's degree from the
University of California, Santa Cruz, his MD from Northwestern
University and his MPH from Harvard. He completed his psychiatry
residency at Stanford where he also served for two years as a Robert
Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar. Dr. Adams is a Distinguished Fellow of the
APA, is board certified in general psychiatry, and holds sub-specialty
certification in addiction psychiatry.
Paul Kirby, MA
Center for Health Policy and Research,
University of Massachusetts Medical School
Paul has an MA in Political Science from Indiana University. His work in the
field of health services and health policy research has included projects on
performance and quality evaluation of publicly-funded mental health services,
analysis of health workforce trends, changes in the supply of hospital inpatient
services, and implementation of hospital quality metrics. He is currently a
researcher with the Center for Health Policy and Research at the University of
Massachusetts Medical School, but was with the Petris Center from 2002-05.
Lisa Simonson Maiuro, MSPH, PhD
Consultant
Lisa is a former RAND/UCLA Pew Health Policy Fellow. She has served
as a consultant for the Rand Corporation, as a senior economist
for the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development
(OSHPD), and as Deputy Director of Health Planning and Policy for
the State of California. She has also provided market and financial
analyses on a dozen healthcare antitrust cases for the state California
Attorney General Office and private clients.
David Pingitore, PhD
Adjunct Professor, Wright Institute of Berkeley
David Pingitore has a PhD in clinical psychology and is a licensed psychologist in
independent practice. He is an Adjunct Professor at the Wright Institute of Berkeley.
His research interests include the evaluation of assessment strategies for persons
with Attention Deficit Disorder, mental health service delivery in primary care, and
geriatric mental health service delivery. Dr. Pingitore is a Qualified Medical
Examiner with the State of California, and an Expert Reviewer with both the
California Board of Medical Quality and the California Board of Psychology. He
consults nationwide on civil forensic matters and is a consulting psychologist with
the Student Health Services at the University of California, Berkeley.
Helen Schneider, PhD
Lecturer, Dept. of Economics, University of Texas, Austin
Helen holds a PhD in Policy Analysis and Management from Cornell University and is
currently a faculty member in the Economics Department of the University of Texas,
Austin. Her research interests include hospital supply of charity care, hospital
mergers and hospital quality, monitoring costs, and CBA evaluation of public policies.
